The Piscataquis County Fund was established in
1986 by area businesses and individuals to
ensure that the county would have the local
charitable resources to address community
issues. Twice a year, grants from the
Piscataquis County Fund are awarded to
nonprofits to support innovative projects.
The Maine Community Foundation manages the
Piscataquis County Fund, and local leaders,
knowledgeable about their communities, help
review grant applications and distribute
funding.

The Maine Humanities Council is a statewide,
private, nonprofit, organization whose mission
is to engage the people of Maine with the power
and pleasure of ideas. The Council's programs,
and the projects which it supports through
grants of $500-$10,000, are intended to
encourage a deeper understanding of ourselves
and others, foster wisdom in an age of
information, and provide context in a time of
change.
The Maine Humanities Council is particularly
interested in supporting projects that
stimulate meaningful community dialogue,
attract diverse audiences, are participatory
and engaging, and invite discovery of the
humanities in interesting and exciting ways.
Grants are awarded to not-for-profit
organizations that serve a Maine audience.

The Penquis
Higher Education Center -
A tool for
workforce development:
The PCEDC was
one of the prime organizers in an effort to
bring a higher education facility to
Piscataquis County. After listening to our
business leaders, we realized that the County
needed an education facility that could offer
both college level classes for residents as
well as customized workforce development
training to meet the needs of our
businesses. Because of these needs, the
PCEDC and other allies (including the
University of Maine
System and the Maine Community College
System)
organized a successful effort to get State
funding for a center. Because of this team
effort, the Penquis Higher Education Center
(PHEC) was formed*. |

Piscataquis Chamber of
Commerce
Welcome to the Piscataquis
Region
The
Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce would
like to thank you for taking time to learn more
about the region.
Our county is
the size of the State of Connecticut, and is
located in central Maine. We have a population
of only 17,000 people and with our miles and
miles of forested land, we are still considered
“frontier land.”
Natural resources are an important part of our
heritage, both for work and for
play.
Welcome to
this haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing,
hunting, camping, hiking or a quiet weekend
doing not much at a summer cottage can all be
enjoyed here. Read a book by the fire this
winter, or bundle up and hit our miles of
snowmobile and cross country ski trails. Pull
big fish up through auger holes and take plenty
of pictures for the folks back home!
We are very
proud of our region, and love to share Maine’s
great outdoors where eagles still fly and deer
graze the fields. After admiring the local
flora and fauna, be sure to come into town for
dinner, shopping and a show.
The Piscataquis region
welcomes you!
